Curriculum,  Classroom + Communication

Our play-based curriculum nurtures each child’s natural curiosity through daily experiences with music and movement, creative expression, early math and science, and hands-on exploration. Lessons align with the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards, and our program is fully licensed by the State of Connecticut.

Every class is led by a teaching team skilled in building strong relationships and creating well-prepared classroom environments. Children are encouraged to take initiative, solve problems, and grow both socially and emotionally. With a low teacher-to-student ratio (approximately 1:6), we’re able to give meaningful attention to each child’s unique needs.

We value open and consistent communication with families. Teachers share updates and photos through Brightwheel, and parents are encouraged to reach out anytime with questions or schedule a time to connect. The director also sends regular emails with school-wide announcements and important updates.

Our classrooms are filled with artwork, engaging materials, and opportunities for play and discovery. Outdoor time is a joyful part of each day, with access to a secure, fenced playground just outside the classroom door.

Parents are welcome partners in our school community—whether by volunteering, sharing talents, reading to the class, or joining us for special events and field trips. We invite feedback each year to help us grow and strengthen our program.

The Preschool Center is located inside the United Church of Christ, Southbury. Our classrooms and playground are secure and self-contained, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for children and families.

Registration & Tuition

We encourage families to begin the enrollment process early. Children must be 3 years old by December 31 and potty-trained before the start of school.

Enrollment begins approximately nine months before the school year starts. Priority is given to current families, their siblings, and members of the United Church of Christ, Southbury—typically in late November or early December. Public enrollment opens in mid-January, and we welcome mid-year inquiries and registrations when space is available.

The Preschool Center has a rolling admissions policy, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. While most families register during the winter months, we recommend applying as early as possible, as seats begin to fill quickly.

To register, request a form and submit it with the $75 registration fee. If your child is not placed in a class, the fee will be refunded. Once a child has been accepted, the registration fee is non-refundable.

Tuition is based on a yearly rate, with various payment plans available. For students enrolling or withdrawing mid-year, tuition is prorated based on a daily rate calculated from the program’s annual schedule. Payment plans for late enrollees may be adjusted at the school’s discretion.

Families are welcome to visit the classroom for a tour and pick up a registration packet. If a class is full, we’ll notify you and offer to place your child on the waiting list.

To request a registration form, email [email protected].

What Parents Are Saying

“I have nothing but the best things to say about The Preschool Center! When looking for a preschool for my son, it was recommended to me by most. We were nervous about his transition, however, all the teachers proved to be phenomenal. They do an excellent job of mixing learning, while keeping the environment fun and welcoming for the children. His love for school has grown since starting here as a 3 yo, and now he cannot wait to start kindergarten this fall! I encourage you to check out The Preschool Center...you won’t be disappointed!”
- Krisian S

“My oldest daughter attended the Preschool Center, and now my 3 year old goes there. The staff is attentive and caring…it’s easy to see they all love what they do! My daughter is excited to go to school to “play” with her friends and I am excited for the growth I have seen not only academically, but with social skills and life skills as well. We love the Preschool Center and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quality program.”
— Lindsay T.

“The UCC Preschool Center has been the best preschool for preparing both of my children for their future schooling. My son is excelling in reading and writing in kindergarten thanks to all of them.”
— Kate B.

“My son is just finishing his second year - he will be entering kindergarten in the fall and I have so much confidence that he is more than ready and very much prepared for elementary school.”
