Welcome to The Preschool Center!
Here, children are known, families are valued, and learning is joyful. We invite you to explore what makes our school community special - from our thoughtfully designed classrooms and play-based curriculum to parent partnerships, and what families are saying about their experience with us.
Curriculum, Classroom + Communication
Our play-based curriculum gives children plenty of time to explore, create, move, and learn through hands-on experiences. Each day includes music and movement, art, early math and science, imaginative play, and practical activities. Our lessons follow the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards, and our program is fully licensed by the State of Connecticut.
Each class is led by a teaching team that knows how to build strong relationships and create a classroom that feels welcoming, organized, and ready for learning. Children are encouraged to make choices, solve problems, work with others, and grow in confidence. With a low teacher-to-student ratio of about 1:6, teachers are able to give each child meaningful attention and support.
We keep families informed through Brightwheel, where teachers share updates, photos, and moments from the day. Parents are always welcome to reach out with questions or arrange a time to talk. The director also sends regular school-wide emails with announcements, reminders, and important information.
Our classrooms are bright, busy spaces filled with children’s artwork, engaging materials, and plenty of opportunities to play and discover. Outdoor time is part of each day, with a secure, fenced playground located right outside the classroom.
Parents are an important part of our school community. Families join us by reading to the class, sharing a talent, helping with special events, volunteering, and coming along on field trips. We also welcome feedback each year as we continue to strengthen the program.
The Preschool Center is located inside the United Church of Christ, Southbury. Our classrooms and playground are secure and self-contained, creating a safe and welcoming space for children and families.

Registration & Tuition
We encourage families to begin the application process early. Children must turn 3 by December 31 and be potty-trained before the school year begins.
A good place to start is with a tour and application about nine months before the school year begins. Priority registration for current families, siblings, and members of the United Church of Christ, Southbury usually takes place in late November or early December. Applications open to the public in mid-January.
We also welcome mid-year inquiries when space is available. Enrollment is rolling, and openings are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Most families register during the winter, so applying early is recommended.
To apply, request an application form and return it with the nonrefundable $75 application fee.
Tuition is based on the full school year, with several payment plan options available. For children who enroll or withdraw during the year, tuition is prorated using a daily rate based on the annual school calendar. Payment plans for late enrollment are arranged by the school.
Families are encouraged to schedule a classroom tour before applying. When a class is full, we will let you know and offer to add your child to the waiting list.

What Parents Are Saying
“I have nothing but the best things to say about The Preschool Center! When looking for a preschool for my son, it was recommended to me by most. We were nervous about his transition, however, all the teachers proved to be phenomenal. They do an excellent job of mixing learning, while keeping the environment fun and welcoming for the children. His love for school has grown since starting here as a 3 yo, and now he cannot wait to start kindergarten this fall! I encourage you to check out The Preschool Center...you won’t be disappointed!”

“My oldest daughter attended the Preschool Center, and now my 3 year old goes there. The staff is attentive and caring…it’s easy to see they all love what they do! My daughter is excited to go to school to “play” with her friends and I am excited for the growth I have seen not only academically, but with social skills and life skills as well. We love the Preschool Center and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quality program.”
— Lindsay T.
“The UCC Preschool Center has been the best preschool for preparing both of my children for their future schooling. My son is excelling in reading and writing in kindergarten thanks to all of them.”
— Kate B.
“My son is just finishing his second year - he will be entering kindergarten in the fall and I have so much confidence that he is more than ready and very much prepared for elementary school.”
